BEST REVIEW - TOP 5 BOARD GAMES FOR MAY 2011 2011 - BOARD GAMES ...

Publish on SheToldMe.com May, 2011. We have rounded up the top 5 board games from over at Board Game Geek. There is a good mix of Board and Card Games this month all ranking high according to board game players' votes and reviews. Check it out.

Twilight Struggle Card Game

Twilight Struggle inherits its fundamental systems from the card-driven classics We the People and Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage. It is a quick-playing, low-complexity game in that tradition. The game map is a world map of the period, whereon players move units and exert influence in attempts to gain allies and control for their superpower. As with GMT's other card-driven games, decision-making is a challenge; how to best use one's cards and units given consistently limited resources?

Puerto Rico Card Game

Prospector, Captain, Trader, Craftsman or Builder? Which roles will you play in the new world?
Award Winning 3-5 player Strategy Game. Puerto Rico is a High Quality Social role Playing Game. Become a Settler in Puerto Rico and build your Plantation!

Agricola Board Game

Agricola is a turn-based board game. There are 14 game turns plus 6 harvest phases (after turn 4, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 14).
Each player starts with two playing tokens (farmer and wife) and thus can take two actions per turn. There are multiple options, and while the game progresses, you'll have more and more: first thing in a turn, a new action card is flipped over.
Problem: Each action can be taken just once per turn, so it's important to do some things with high preference.

Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization Baord Game

Through the Ages is a civilization building game. The goal is to develop your civilization, not to destroy other ones. Military strength is just one aspect of your nation, as well as population, production or science. It is up to you which aspect you will concentrate on, more or less, but you should not underestimate any of them while building your civilization.

Power Grid Board Game

Power Grid is the updated release of the Friedemann Friese crayon game Funkenschlag. It removes the crayon aspect from network building in the original edition, while retaining the fluctuating commodities market like Crude: The Oil Game and an auction round intensity reminiscent of The Princes of Florence.

The object of Power Grid is to supply the most cities with power when someone's network gains a predetermined size. In this new edition, players mark pre-existing routes between cities for connection, and then bid against each other to purchase the power plants that they use to power their cities.

However, as plants are purchased, newer, more efficient plants become available, so by merely purchasing, you're potentially allowing others access to superior equipment.
